Does anybody have them regarding coins? Very occasionally, I make a purchase on ebay and right from the start I think to myself 'this isn't going to work out.' And sure enough it doesn't. In early December I bought a fairly cheap reasonable grade 1898 penny, and right from the start I had the idea it wouldn't arrive. Sure enough after a few weeks my 'premonition' turned out right. Not only that, but the seller doesn't respond to contact, so clearly it's a scam. The sum involved was only £5.00 plus postage so no big deal, and ebay will no doubt return the money, but I wonder why I get these feelings about the occasional purchases. I can think of maybe two or three occasions in the past 10 years or so when I have 'known' things wouldn't work out, and they didn't.

Spooky, or just an unconscious feeling based on something about the seller or the fact that the item is cheap or what? With all due respects to any members on here, but could it be because the seller is called Darren or Wayne or whatever?

There are ways to apply a little pressure, and even if not ultimately successful you have have the pleasure of giving the guilty party an uncomfortable time. Some you win and some you lose, but unfortunately too many problem sellers are unwilling to accept the latter.

I get it sometimes the other way round, as a seller to certain countries. That's when I pay the difference between the buyer's p&p and International Signed For.

I have one at the moment, a big lump of silver to Brasil. Buyer doesn't seem to know that it's tracked or that he's already signed for it.

Hasn't stopped him claiming though, should be interesting.

I have, very politely, asked the seller for the tracking number, so that I can take the 'loss' up with Royal Mail. Answer came there none. I'm not holding my breath. My initial point wasn't so much the methods for chasing up the seller, but more that for reasons I can't quite fathom, I 'knew' this was going to happen.

I do wonder if at the end of an auction someone goesin with a better offer or tips the seller off that it's a rare variety so it never gets posted.

It must happen occasionally, but I suspect that far more are lost due to their not having reached the desired price.

It's only one negative in nine ratings. Easily done if you have a buyer that got out of bed on the wrong side.
