I think it's later than a 5b. I'd go 5g(?) based on the shape of the h, X, crown and rounded chin. What's the mint and moneyer as this will give a good indication of type?

Is it yours and if so, is it full of soil which might come off in a gentle wash?

Looks like London?

Tis mine but I haven't got it in hand as yet, I agree it looks like it might benefit from a wash!

Moneyer might be Ricard?

I'll post better pics when I have it, thanks Rob

It's RICARD ON LVND with a ligated AR, but there is so much crud on it that making a sense of the letter shapes is a bit too much like hard work. The reverse looks cracked. Is it like that all the way through?

Time for a softened toothpick and cotton bud methinks.

It does looked cracked in the 1st quarter on the REV

I've now received the coin and given it a gentle wash, hopefully it will now be easier to ID?

I think it's 'just' a scratch on the reverse, not a crack ...

yes that's better !

Looked like the defect may have been at 2 o'clock on the obverse in the first pic, but it is gone now.

Nice coin.

The X of REX looks 5g-i, the h of hENRIC 5f-i, the R 5d-i and the A 5a-7. The crown says 5g, so with Ricard only striking at London up to 5g and taking all the letters into consideration, that makes this a 5g.

You now need a copy of North vol.1 ;)
