Guest Peter Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 Thanks for the info re,ebay guys.Sylvester, I have yet to obtain any William III coins but I am interested in the whole late 17th and early 18th century both from a historical and numismatic (have I spelt that right?) viewpoint. William III is my favourite but I do like the later coins of Charles II (after the hammered issues), James II, William and Mary, William (after 1694) and Anne. Some of the silver coins of Anne are particularly good. I do start to lose interest with the coming of the Hanoverians however! It is the silver coins that I would like to collect but maybe, one day I will be able to collect gold!At the moment I have a 'rag bag' collection of coins including crowns and double florins etc but nothing of any particular value. I have a family and a low income so no spare money ( I haven't had a holiday for 20 years; indeed my last foreign holiday was in 1970!) so things will have to improve on the finance front before I can start to buy. If someone would like to send me £20,000 I will start staight away. Quote
Sylvester Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 Well you're pretty much into the same areas as me then. The silver coins of that period are actually nicer than the gold ones.Let me make a suggestion to you, for a low budget but you want a decent set;The maundy stuff (1d to 4d) they are quite cheap compared to the other denominations.Sixpences 1674-1711 (quite a few dates are missing in that period).Shillings upwards are much more expensive and have many many more dates and varieties to get.
