My No.8 Newsletter is scheduled to go out in 20 minutes. It contains 180 New coins in list form (no pictures this time round because my time has been taken up by the book).

It also includes a discount on Collectors' Coins GB 2005.

And here it is:

I think i may just fork out for a copy of CC 2005!

I'm thinking about this early milled one, but which would be best?

Consolidating the post 1816 coinage by having a gold coinage book?

Or concentrating on milled non-gold coinage?

I think we'll brush hammered under the carpet cos that is way too complex, unless you feel really adventurous?

If you ever need a book on Stephen for any unknown reason in future i need to be involved!

I was asked by my Australiasian Rep if I could add gold coins to CCGB2005 to make it more complete, because he thought the Aussies would like it better. I don't think i will because it would make the book bigger, and therefore more expensive.

On the other hand, a book about post 1816 gold coinage wouldn't really be very big at all would it.

So what about a book on all milled gold coinage? The only thing I can foresee with that is that a lot of the coins are expensive, so how accurate could it really be? (especially for the early ones)

So, what about an early milled non gold book first, and then perhaps a gold all milled?

Sylvester, get writing!

I'll have a look around Chris...

Gotta get myself a new Spinks for prices and such.

Give me a year or two, got studies on going that will have to take priority but i forsee no reason why i couldn't knock something decent up whilst i'm at it!

Crowns-Farthings.

Crowns and Halfcrowns should be interesting with all the varieties. Would you need some brief history with this? Or just prices?

History is always good, and prices depending on what you see.

In a couple of year when you finsish doing what you're doing, consider yourself commissioned!

I'll email you a copy sometime tonight, i've got it started.

The crowns are going down. No prices though.

Perhaps we should get fellow members to get the prices for their denominations but i'll get the templates and stuff wrote up and email them to you. You have an acrobat writer so you can ammend them as required and shove in pictures etc. And layout the pages.

I'm concentrating on drafting up the price listing pages thus far and as and when i get the time i might do some introductory pages with reference to the Roetiers and the Ochs' etc. Just going through the Coincraft and listing everything they've got down... it's gonna be tedious going through William III's halfpennies. Infact going through anything of William III's will be tedious cos there's just soo soo much of it! Provincial mints, 'errors' etc. Arrghhh! :D

Im in :), i hate the fact that spink only lists the early milled rare varieties as 'extremely rare' rather than obtaining the actual prices...i would be happy to focus on Charles II - Anne farthings, and then maybe even George I - Vicky :) ...i would also be happy to find out a bit of history :)...

Sorry to jump in...but yes, love to help :)

Great, but I hope you haven't just copied Coincraft or Spink (i doubt it). It has to be your own work.

What is is, .doc format?

Probably .doc

No i'm just using Coincraft as a starting point, i'm going to add a few things/omit things etc. The layout is somewhat different already.

Only problem is that it's hard to escape it looking like Coincraft/Spinks/Seaby or any other coin catalogue book you may think of because of course as you are aware they all look pretty much alike anyhow! At least when it comes to price listing they do. And they are the only real reference point when it comes to such 'trivialities' as edge lettering and overdates. Crowns/Halfcrowns are not an area i know very much about.

But i do hear your plagerism comments very loud and clear, that is something i'm very keen to try and avoid.

I've just got to figure out how it is best to present this, Coincraft not being my ideal model because i think improvements can be made on their model.

I'm wondering whether missing out some of the minor varieties would be a good idea.

I'll post you a copy of what i've got so far... it feels more like Collectors' Coins so far, but still a bit Coincrafty than i'm comfortable with.
