2015 United Kingdom Premium Proof Coin Set possible mistake?

Recommended Posts

Hi

i have just bought The 2015 United Kingdom Premium Proof Coin Set form the Royal Mint ( Proof Set ) and in that set there is a 200th Anniversary of Waterloo 2015 UK £5 with a maximum mintage of 35,000 coins. on the queens head side there is a very nice mirror finish with frosting on the raised lettering and queens head.

on the other side of the coin there a design featuring the victorious commanders, Wellington and Blucher.
with a very nice mirror finish with and absolutely NO FROSTING on this side at all.

I don't think you can go by the RM sales pics normally, as they are usually made up processed pictures and always look better than the real coin. To compare you'd have to see pics of other actual coins. I think the RM initially actually showed the wrong obverse on their website for this coin.

I've just had a look at mine and as you say the reverse is not frosted. Looking at the design, I'm not surprised as it's a very busy scene and I guess frosting wouldn't have added to it. In fairness to the RM, the design has a very contoured look to it, which when photographed could easily appear as though frosted in my opinion.

I thought it was a mistake but when I contacted the Mint they said that is how I should be. Looks out of place in the set with no frosting.

It might imply there will be some VIPs for interested parties. Is there going to be any big celebration in Belgium?
