Humidity

Recommended Posts

Having been visiting this site for quite a while now,I'm almost ready to buy my first coin and become a legitimate member of this forum. However one thing worries me.I live in Japan and in Summer the humidity is overwhelming (I'm talking bicycles rusting almost overnight!).What if anything would this do to a coin collection and are there any precautions I would have to take?

Thanks.

Don't buy any copper or base metal coins. If routing for silver go for the ones with a high silver content.

Failing that gold is a much safer option where you'd not have to worry too much.

Copper and iron coins are a no no.

Yes, I'll echo that. Go for sterling silver (all pre 1920 British Silver coins will be ok).

I do hope that your first purchase will be from me! ;)
