Weird fifty pence

Hi folks. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out the one sided fifty pence coin I have. The queens head is missing but there is a very faint impression of it that if you tilt it to the light. Does anyone have any information? I'm not a numismatist so apologies in advance for my ignorance!

The fifty pence's other side is the same as the one shown.

Both coins are the same thickness and feel about the same weight.

My guess would be it has been sat on a corrosive surface? I wouldn't say it is something of numismatic interest myself? Thanks for finding us, though, it's always interesting when anomalies turn up!

Is the faint image of the queen facing left or right?

I'm a chemist so thought about the corrosive surface but the coin is actually a little thicker than its standard cousin, not thinner. Also the edge is not rounded. Its quite distinct. The image, I think, is facing right.

Your coin appears to be the older 50p and therefore bigger, is the other side normal.

Otherwise IMO its been in acid or corroded .

As a chemist you've probably got access to some very accurate scales, can you get the weight of both coins?

As PWA mentioned, the one coin looks bigger, is that an optical illusion? Is the reverse you show the exact match for the reverse of your's?

No. The coin with the blank side is slightly thicker I think. Access to scales is difficult as I'm on holiday and the lab is shut down for new conduit fitting ( old gas pipes look great but h'n's had kittens!). I can add more photos if that helps?
