Double headed George V HalfPenny

Recommended Posts

On searching through my recently deceased 91 year old mothers belongings, I have found a double headed George V coin which I believe to be a half penny. Could this be genuine, fake, valuable or just a joke?

It could be genuine, but far, far more likely it's just a bit of handy work. They normally come as;

- One coin hollowed out, the other slightly ground around the rim and then pushed into the hollowed out penny

- Both coins ground on the reverse to about half the thickness, then fused to have both sides with an obverse (or heads side)

Check if there is either a line going around the rim, almost splitting the coin in half, OR, just around the rim but on one of the faces there should be a similar line that shouldn't be there.

Here are some pictures of where to look for a line that shouldn't be there
