Museum Copies ? on Ebay

Recommended Posts

EBay is totally awash with them!

It sure is! Not sure if most of them are museum copies, or Chinese copies from the likes of Ali Express ... or are they the same thing these days?!

The Paine token is certainly not a museum quality copy. It looks more like a machine token.

All the stuff on that link is Chinese from aliexpress, it's basically everything British that is produced. Abosulutely nothing Museum about them and they cost less than £1.00 per coin. As far as I know ebay policy doesn't allow these items to be listed in any other category other than Coins - Novelty, or something like that, they have to be permanently marked as copies and you need to make sure the title indicates they are copies. The copied Chinese carp that's constantly listed for 0.01p with completely ambiguous wording is bad enough but to get a store like this is just taking the pss.

If you follow Ebay's report item procedure starting with Report Category and select Copyright and trademark from the pull down menu. Then go to the Reason for report and select Counterfeit item or authenticity disclaimer from the pull down menu. Finally select Detailed reason and select Counterfeit fake or replica item from the pull down menu and complete the report. I do not know if Ebay takes much notice of this but it is their procedure for dealing with issues such as this. If all members of this forum complained every time they saw these items it may help to have these items removed by Ebay. Most of these items are not museum copies as these are usually stamped with copy, replica etc.

eBay really doesn't take much notice if anything, if they get their cut then they don't care.

Perhaps but it is no use whinging unless you are prepared to do something. As a matter of course I report these items if I see them.
